Current Status
Currently contracted to SSC Ltd until 27th Auugust 2010 and will be seeking contract work only in the Newport area (or 30 minute max commute).
Skill Set
My main skill set is in developing n-tiered web applications using .NET, (happy to work with VB or C#), sitting on SQL. My last several contract have involved working within small to medium sized development teams but I also have ample experience of one man projects – happy to work either.
My Perfect Role?
I'm no code monkey so software houses aren't usually my cup of tea. I did do a contract for the consultancy firm Microgen Kaishi in Swindon which was mostly sitting at a desk and knocking out code. However, I got to Jersey to oversee UAT which more than compensate for the lonely months in the office.
One of my most favourable contracts was for North Electric (now NPower) back 1998 in Newcastle. The company was American owned and they had a relatively rare business model. Rather than the IT department having as budget for developing systems, each individual department had it's own IT budget for purchasing systems from the IT department.
However, departments weren't obliged to purchase from us, they could outsource the work if desired. This meant the IT department operated quite differently to anywhere else I had worked (and since), we were effectively an internal software house, actively seeking work from the various departments.
